ngorongoro crater

In order to get to the entrance of the Serengeti, our jeeps followed the road that hugs the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. Forming around two to three million years ago when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself creating a two thousand feet deep hole in the earth, the crater and surrounding highlands together form one of Africa's most beautiful regions.

It is home to about twenty five thousand animals such as the endangered black rhino, hippopotamus, elephants, cape buffalo, wildebeest and zebras. This makes it the the most densely populated wildlife areas in the world. Within the five minutes of us driving into the crater, we spotted a small pack of hyenas enjoying their early lunch. Our jeep pulled over and we sat there observing, trying to be quiet and calm but we were overly excited that this was the first(and rare)thing to see on our safari.

The crater showcases nature at it's finest. My photographs of Ngorongoro do this place absolutely no justice at all.
